GOOD WAY TO SAVE HAY.
Veteran farmer* ieil u* that there i*
more and better crow foot grass In
their fields than ever before and that it
makes more nutritious stock food,
grren or cured, than any other native
grass. People are too busy picking
the aB open cotton to bother with hay
making hut those who can afford the
time m cut and save the crow foot he
fere frost will have bettor and cheaper
feed for work stock and milk cows
than they can buv.
Mr. W. H. Wooiey of Elko, whose
every word on farming and sane busi
ness is fir.niv believed by this paper,
tell* n« of the easy and safe wsy In
which he has saved hay without a sin
g'e failure In several year*.
He advise* the gathering and hous
ing of the corn. Then, he says, put
the mower and mules in the field, and
let the grass fnd corn stalks go down.
The rake follow* quick'y, drawing the
cut grass and stalks into heap* or rows
convenient for stacking, which is done
?e-op«» - ’’"a Aanding about tew mr,
twelve fret high. The grass and stalks
carefuilv put up will cure perfectly
and keep sound and sweet until want
ed for stock feed the next Spring or
Summer. Tfte pole should not 4>e too
high for the stacker to put a pitch fork
of gras* on top of It, and that will act
as a thatched roof to shed rfln. Each
stack contains a wagon load of hay.
Mr. Wooley’s plan of stacking the
grass while green is a new one to us
but hi* word makes n* beHeye it. He
says that the corn stajks w ill keep the
grass from settling too solidly and will
allow the air to circulate through the
stack and cure the hay jyeifectly.

We attended the Red Alilrt Reunion

the capital city was furnishing tbe
water and the air, the former looked
like it w&a fresh from the rivdr and
the lattercame in small quantitlevfrom
two.of the hottest days we ever ex
perlenced. The Red Shirt men lytf-
ni-hed what ever else thev ooulu'nt
do without We can say this much,
however, for the city we saw ho on*
retrained from doing a* they pleased.
We saw only one policeman during
our* *tav and the under sized little
fellow looked as if h« wanted to crawl
In a hide ami it in after him and must
have had order* to hand* off.
But before leaving Columbia we fell
in with an ex Barnwell man who has
not yet put on the airs of a city dude
and we (without our having to cross
Ids path for the expressed purpose) re
ceived a pressing Invitation to dinner.
Now evely one who knows our capaci

W H Jones to eat and be well filled
Here we found Mrs. Jones who has
apparency improved In every way as
the years go by. At the over burdened
table we found nothing to imitate ho
tel fare where yon must leave a piece
of ever? thing on each dish and cjdi it
manoers and tbe table ware the only
nice thing tbe hotel bad. We saw but
qbe of their three children a bright
boy -of school sg*. Our only regrei;
was our short stay at the Jones resi

a place where there is no dangfcr that
