A severe attack of Indigestion on
Tuesday evening of last week com
pelled the absence of Sheriff Frank II.
Creech from the court room until Mon
day, when the faithful veteran resumed
his duties. During his brief Illness
Capt. J. 0. Reel acted In lilt stead with
fine efficiency.
Mrs. M. J. Pate and family and Mr.
and Mrs. Evlaon desire in this public
way to express their thanks and their
sense of obligation to those who as
sisted In subduing the flame* at the re
cent fire at their residence. It Is
wholly due to their efforts that a dis
astrous fire w as averted.
The local stockholders of the Bank
of Western Carolina received on Sacur
day the fourth quarterly dividend,
which was payable January l*r, I'.'ll,
but was sent out as x Christmas pres
ent ahead of time. This makes a total
of about 185,000 paid to It* stockhold

Mr. W T. Crain, an employee of the
big taw mill at Knbbint, was killed ac
cidentnllv in the swamp on Saturdav.
He jumped the wrong wav when the
