There is nothing to be urged against his opponents—nothing for
or against them—only that neither gentleman is suffering for lack of
honors or emolument. One is a bank president, the other was elected
Solicitor for i terra of foor years at a handsome salary, and he has
served two years—hall the task the people gave him to perform.

A LAST WORD,
To the Democratic Voters of the 2nd Congressional District*
As yoyr representative in Congress, the Hon. James O. Patter
son was, through a malarial illness contracted while aiding the dis
tressed people of his district in the section almost ruined by the
overflow of the Savannah River, rendered physically unable to ad
dress his constituents at the campaign meetings held in his District,
I think it due both to you and to this faithful public servant to say
that H he had been able to address the people at these
campaign
meetings they would have had convincing proof of his great ability as
a worker in tn$ ranks of the Democratic minority, of his thorough
equipment for the intelligent aud effective discharge of the duties
you have committed to him. / ,
In that greatest of all political schools, the Congress of the
United States, there has been no more pfogreasive student of public
affairs than James O. Patterson, His association with the leading
public men of the Congress has broadened his {rowers, strengthened
his good judgment and made him the equal in effectiveness of any
and the superior in every particular of many of the favorite sons of
other and larger states. Our State has never had a worthier Repre
sentative in Congress than he is, and as he will continue to be -as
long as honored by the ballots of his District fellow citizehs,
I say this because I know it to be so, and 1 know it to be so be
cause the records of Congress prove it. As a reader and
the Congressional Record, the Official Journal of Cjyjf^eMional pro
cecdings. I bear my testimony to his worth &
