Now. it so happens that ihe city and

SAVING 1TIE CHILDREN,
Defective eye»ight wiites William
Allen JofinstdTt in the April Circle
Magazine, eaiitng attentton to the ne

liitle people, is even more commun
titan > defective hearing and usually
more disastrous in re-ults.
A Chicago physi. ian states tltat the
number of ‘‘short-sighted” children in
this country todav runs away up int<*
the millions. And Hits great army of
little weaklings may he made healthy,
robust children by the timely and
proper fitting of glasses!
Besides defective eyes and ears, there
are many other nervous irritants which
either escape the parents’ eye- alto
gether—-which is almost always the
ease—or else they are voted too trivial
to need correction. The skilled phvsi-
clan can find them; he knows too, that
while there are quicker ways deliber
ately to wreck a child’s health, there
is no surer and morer, dead!v cour-e
titan the neglect of these ’‘trivial ab
normalities.
A crooked tooth sounds nnImportant
enough, but in a young child it may
completely disarrange its bodily, men
tal and moral development Proper
mastication U prevented and impaired
digestion with all its resultant ills and
its promise of permanent weakness
naturally follows.
The case is cite! of a littl girl who
had grown to bo a hopeless ‘’liar.” She
was anemic, very delicate, aod fre-/
quently ill, A careful examination
revested constant fermentation in Iyer
stomach and this was caused, it w as
found, by a single crooked tooth which
prevented the grinding motion so ne
cessary to proper mastication.
The fermentation of food/ in the
stomach caused unnatural nervous re
flexes which in turn overall mutated
the brain and resulted in a disordered
imagination. The child,‘ day dream
