A FATAL RIDE.
On Bunday afternoon as Misses Alice
Sojourner and Beulah Glllam wero re
turning to Blat kville from a ride to
Healing Springs tlie horse became
frightened and ran, n%ay near the
colored cemetery. Miss^Hlam leaped
ftom the buggv and wa* rendered un
conscious by the force of the fall on
the hard road and remained so until
her death at i o’clock Monday after
noon. MIssGillam wa* a member of
one of the most honored famIlieA of,t^e
two counties of Bamberg and Barnwell
and was universally beloved for her
hi^W and attractive qualities. Her so
sudden, so sad death has brought sor
row to the hearts of tlie multitude of
her friends, and all gentle hearts share

NEW YORK—Wm. ll. Alley, who was for years
an engineer 911 the elevated and later a motonnan on
jj the elevated, went to the Bronx braYich of orte ofthe
big trust companies anil drew out $2,000 in savings.
The money was in two five hundred dollar bills and
ten one hundred dollar bills. Mrs. Alley ripped
open the bottom scam of an old Skirt and sewed the
money in, bill end to bill end, around the bottom,
and doing flit) Vv'ork so carefully that detection was
defied.
While the Alleys were at a theater party, burglars
raided their home at 555 Westchester avenue, and
carried off the skirt along with other articles of
clptbjng, silverware and trinkets. Mrs. A!lv7 te-
4ieves that the stolen skirt Is at this time being worn
by some one who is unaware of the valuable load it
