Before tbe recent war the poll tax was a head, now $0, and the per capita share of the national debt has been raised from $9 to $25. By the time the Japanese army is disbanded the public debt will amount to $1,250,000,000. The Standard Warehouse Company of South Carolina was organized at Columbia last week wilii a capital of : 1500,000. It owns the standard ware houses at Columbia, Greenwood, Green ville and Anderson with a storage capacity of 50,000 bales and will build others at different places. Governor Heyward and "other leading South Carolinians are directors. Governor Heyward last week par- dened three white men who had been convicted of robbing the post office and bank at Latla and sentenced to six years in the penitentiary. They were from tbe North, two of them sign painters, the other a copper worker making turpentine stills. The real robber* were convicted In S. court at Charleston at a later date. SPECIAL NOTICE.
