Mr. Moses Mathews died very aud-
denlyum Sunday evening. He had not
been well for some months, but was
not considered seriously ill. He was
out in the yard and as he started in the
'house fell and breathed a few time*
when the end came. His remains were
laid tp rest in the cemetery at Ihls place
on Monday evening; He was a veteran
of the lost cans* and loved by all who
knew him, aged 79 years.

at 12 o’clock nt., the party-partook of-a
bountiful spread, prepared by Sheriff
Creech after which the bride and
gruom went to the Southern depot, ac
companied by a boat of young friend*,
and upon the arrival of the 210 train
they boarded it for Savannah, Ga
amid the showers of rice thrown over
them by their admiring friends. AH

A VERY SAD DEATH.
On Thursday afternoon In presence
of targe number of sorrowing relative*
and frleuds the body of Mr. George J,
Lott was laid to rest in the Elko nemo
tery. Rev. Dr. Lucius Cuthbcrt of
Aiken conducting the touching funeral
services, and his brethren of the
performing the final service of com
muting his body to the long rest in the
bosom of the mother earths—
He met his death in Augusta
morning before while In the discharge
of his duty as a trusted employee of
the Southern Railway. He had flagged
bis train, the morning passenger
scheduled to Charleston, from the
union depot through tho busy streets
to the Reynolds itrect crossing when
a* required by the regulations, he had
stepped from the main track to one
side, to get on the train as it passed at
the alow rate of two miles an hour
Suddenly the day passenger coach left
the track, entered a switch and falling
over crushed quarantine officer Murphy
to death, and so shattered both of Mr
Lott’s legs that be died a few hours
later in the Augusta Hospital.
Besides other relative»-he left a de
voted wife, the daughter of Mr. Beu
nett Stringfellow of Elko, two beauti
ful and bright little children and
multitude of sincere friends to mourn
his death.
He was about 32 years of age, a man
of admirable habits, fine promise and
the future before him was all bright
with the hopo of long and useful
and happy Hfe when the sudden sum
monscame. His memory will be lung
and lovingly cherished by all that
loved him and knew hi* great worth.
