life, but owing to the hour and plane
could gel no help in time. The trouble
was started by Glover driving aroqnd
without permission In a new buggy
Williams had bought
Thomas Washington, colored, died
in the Charles Con (Jity Hospital on
Monday from a gunshot wound re
ceived at Blackville on Saturday night
at the hands of Man Robinson.
Williams was lodged in jail on
day and Robinson on Tuesday.

was attacked with appendicitis at
Chick Spring* last week, carried to the
Greenville aanatoriuiu and succes*-
fully operated on Thursday night,by

Mr*. R II. Walker went to Greenville
to be with him.
To the great gratification of his
many Barnwell friend* he stood the
operation well and is making steady
progress to early recovery.
The xnnusl x settlement' between the
State anti County wn* made Tuesday
by Mr. Wilson for the Comptroller Gen
eral and county ofUeial-*. The com.
plete preparation and readiness of the
latter made the settlement a quick and
easy one and entirely satisfactory to
the very capable and faithful represen
tatives of the Stale and County.
Mr. E. B. W|l»on, Chief Clerk to the
Comptroller General, and a master ex
pert at bookkeeping, said the settlement
was one of the most satisfactory he had
ever made and highly complimented
Treasurer Armstrong and Prof. Hart.
Mr. I. L. Attaway represented the
Grand Jury. Mr. Wilson went Tester-
day to Bamberg to make the settlement.
At 2 o’clock Sunday morning Albert
Cave, colored, while going to wake Mr.
George Ulmer to catch the train at
Kline, noticed a light under the door
of R. M Harrison A Co.’a store and af-
tor_W»M n ll Mr. Ulmer they went over
to Investigate and saw a negro through
the key hole, with lamp in hand, pick.
Ingout what he needed and carefully
laying- the articles together on the
counter^ Mr. Ulmer, leaving Albert
to giurqthe front, went to 'tbe’baek,
finding « window open, through which
he entered and slipped up on the thief
who proved to be Walter Kelly, a
voting negro 19 years of age, who lives
near the place. He was very much
frightened And gave up without reels-
tsoue, was looked up to await trial.

DEATHS.
Mr. 6. Martin Hunter-died on-,the
24th ult. in tlie St Francis Xavier Hos
pital. Charleston, to which he had gone

valvular disease of the heart. His
tMhiy waa buried at Hunter’s Chapel.
He was about 51 rears of age, and Is
survived by his wife and one son. He
had s liost of friends within the old
Barnwtell county boundaries.
Dr. Walter S. Hay of Allendale died
on Saturdav morning -at Aiken, to
w hich place lie had gone for the bene
fit of his health some two weeks before.
In his Jeath Allendale has lost one of
her best citizena, w ho from brave boy
service fh the war between the States
until the close of bi* honored life had
been among the foremost In every good
work. There 4s sadness in many hearts
and home* because he lias been taken
away In themidsuoAtner of his years- ,

friends is with Mr. E. W Hyrne In his ‘
great sorrow for the death of his devo

the Hospital in Augusta, where she
had gone for surgical treatment She
