The Inquest oyer the body of Gloster
Daniel*, a negro who was shot near
Olar lust week by Mr. Fred Gunnel*,
developed no additional fact* from
those published In thls paper last waak.
The testimony was that Mr. Gunnels
had gone to the negro's house with
some meal and bacon for him, and
while there or near there where the
negro was plowing, had complained to
Daniels about hla not properly attend
ing to the mule or horse In his charge.
The nearo denied It and cursed Mr.
Gunnels, wfid wasslttinglnTfie wggorrr ~
When Gunnel* started to get oilt of the
wagon the negro ran for hi* gun which
was lying at the end of the row. Mr,
Gunnel* then raised his gun and fired,
hl*j( un only being loaded with bird
shot. The negro’agun wa* loaded with
buck shot. The negro rah a* soon a*
he was shot aud died a day or two
later. — £ ■
The verdict of the jury wa* the usual
one In such cases, being that Daniels
came to his death from a gun shot
wound at the hand of Fved Gunnel*.
Mr, Gunnels came in last Huntlay and
surrendered to the Sheriff and 1s now
In jail. No application for ball has
heen made, a* the June term of court
is an near at hand. In ea«e this term

tion of the cotton crop In southern
Aiken county and northern Barnwell
county are coming in daily, and in ad
dition to the short acreage for the *ea^
son, there is every prospect that other
cause* will cut the acreage to be even
ahorter than anticipated. The reports
are to the effect that the May rain* are
producing havoc In many IbcaTItles,

come this, but the shortage of labor
and the rapid grow th of grass make* it
doubtful if they will be able to keep
