Ing. Twelve thousand tickets have
been sold at five dollars apiece. The
President and Mrs. Roosevelt will lead

CONCERNING CROPPING.
In the good eld times it was the rule
with ftamwell District farmers to be
gin planting corn on March Hub and
cotton on April 10th,
All that they knew about fanning
had been well learned by experience.
They knew that March planted corn
matured before the Hummer drought
and heat could injure it materially and
that It was heavier and a better food
for man and beast than that from later
planting.
Then land* were rested sometimes
and had mqre or less of uature’a plant
food In them. They were not contin
ually cropped and stimulated with
commercial fertilizers and cotton
could wait, grow slowly and bear un
til frost.
The almanac weather prophets pre
dict extremely hot weather for next
August, and the believers in these long
range predictors are taking due notice
and will govern themselves accordlng-
