•Jn April, 1865, the late Mr. John F-
Birt of the Long^ Branch section
brought home from v irginia a dozen
twigs.from the famous apple tree at
Appomattox. These he grafted on
Other shoots on bis place. Two of the
twigs lived. One of them U now a tree
a foot and a half in diameter, the other
half that size. j
One of them hat only a few apples on
it now, blight having attacked it. The
driver has about two bushels.. These
applet ripen about the last of October
and stand this climate, well. When

leges and courtesies to the visiting can
