On Mil Tw—<ty from I ». m. until

will bo w/fod. The Dtmocratio voter*
of thl* Stale will wltlilo tboae hour*
“thin to a aland” tha long rowa of can
didates aollcltlng their favor. Two
weeks later the contest will be finished
and until another campaign year shall
rome the people will have rest. This
paper haa time and again advised Ita
readers that It is as much the duty of
the oitlaen to vote right as of the office
bolder to discharge his duties In the
Tight way. The ballet la that fraction
<>f the sovereignty of the State entrust*
od to each Individual, lntendcd./to be
and it should be used for the general
good, not as ■ weapon for the revenge
of personal wrongs nor for the reward
of personal friendships or tbs payment
oT political debts.
That Is the proper theory of our form
of government, and It la a gratifying
tact that year after year the disciples
of that construction Increase In nutn*
ber and gtow stronger In faith. Tbs
change for the better goes on surely If
slowly, as tho people at large rlee to i
plane of Intelllgenee and understand
Ing which tech is a aufficlent leader
for himself. Ne greet sad lasting
work was ever completed by the ebll

goes oa as bravely as could bo at

Inlure Col. Croft In his race for Con
gress. This Is the wav of the fellow
who Is frightened. II.) whistles to keep
up his courage. It Is well known that
Mr. Bellinger has but little strength in
Aiken, Kdgelleld and Saluda Counties,
where the large majority of the voters
reside who will decide the race. What
strength Mr. Bellinger feus U confined
to Barnwell Coun'y and the boasting
of his organ can not deceive those who
are at all posted.
The four lower counties of Beaufort,
Hampton, Bamberg and Barnwell have
but UUO voters, while Aiken,* Edgefield
and Saluda have 7000 voters. Mr. Bel
Unger can not expect to carry any
county except Barnwell and has scarce
ly any strength In the three upper
counties.
The Sentinel prides Itself upon the
race* Mr. Bellinger has made In the
past. Evidently it haa forgotten hie
race for Attorney Generalship against
Mr. Barber before the General Assem
