President Hartzog and the other
meml>ers of the faculty said Wednes
day afternoon that they regretted the
matter very much, but they felt that
they had simply discharged their duty
as required by the circumstances. “It
was simply a question,” said Col.
Simpson, “as to who would run this
college, the faculty or the students.
The faculty felt that they were the
ones to run it and have proceeded ac
cordingly.
NO MEETING OK HOARD.
“There will be no meeting of the
ixiantof trustees." said Col. Simpson,
“liecause there is no need for it. The
incident, while very much deplored
has occurred and has ended, and the
college will proceed as though noth
ing lu»d happened. We deeply regret
the hasty action of the students and
we believe no one will regret It more
than the student themsehes when
they realize what a mistake-they have
made.”

For that reason such wars should be

the facta had l»ecii misrepresented or
exaggerated to the faculty and peti
tioned for a rehearing of the case* In
order that all thecircumstances might
be brought out. When the faculty
refused their request they felt that
loyalty to their classmate demanded
that they should leave the college in a
Ixidy and this was done.
The main point urged by the stu
dents is that the punishment indicted
on young Thorn well is in excess of
that warranted by the case. FJor in
stance they say there is a' college rule
that a student found with mess hall
property in his room shall be given 10
demerits, yet here-.was a student who
simply violated a x rule and unwitting
ly took certain college property for
use in his class wqrk, without remov
ing it from the building and was sus
pended therefor. - '
