Before day on Friday morning two
young,Barnwell runabout negro fel
low* slipped into town. *Tb*Jf‘* , lnrtt'
contracted small pox in Savannah, and
either left to escape contliiement in tbe
l*est house, or were indirectly encour-
agrd by the city authorities to get this
side of the river. Mayor Calhoun had
these fellows and all persons with
whom thev had associated put under
day and night guard in the ont-kiris of
the town, and no pains w ill be spared
to keep tbe disease i-oullned to the
present limits. In the meantime quar
antine has been declared against Sa
vannah tbe centre of the pest and he id-
quarters for its distribution.

I left Barnwell nt 0:12 o’clock on
Friday morning in$ company of two

pancakes and^ fritiers with George
Todd at Bobbins I would not have re
fused the delightful breakfast offered
