reported measurements for the week
of less than an inch, 14 of from 1 to 2
Inches; and 17 of over 2 inches, the
averge of all measurements being 1.56
while the normal for the week is about
1.46.
The rain of the latter portion of the
week was generally needed, and as it
was followed by cloudy, cool weather
will prove highly bcneticial. The great
est amount rpported was 4.23 at Char*

One of the burden’s dissenters had to

rate, which wa* imposed upon the
parishioners generally without refer
ence to whether they approved or at
tended the parish church or not. My
father held a position in the town
which gave him the confidence of bis

Inter-State commerce which frequently
clashes with police regulation*. Con
gress, in Sections 3,31)2, 3,381 of the
Revised Statutes, has prescribed what
shall be an original package of cigar
ettes. No similar provision has been
made anywhere with regard to liquors.
For this reaeonlhe cases quoted relat
ing to cigarettes cannot aid us. (In
re Minor, 6‘J Fed Hep, 235; State vs
McGregor, 76 Fed Uep, 1)57; State vs
Goetze, 27 So E. Bep, 225.)
An examination of the large number
of cases which have been quoted by
counsel shows that the question under
discussion is largely a question of fact,
determinable by the circumstances of
each case. A text writer In the Amor-
can and English Encyclopaedia of Law,
Voi 17, says. .“An original package
within the sense of the Inter-State

If sold or delivercu It must be sold or de
livered as shipped and received. If
the package be broken after such de

delivery in such case is unlawful.

case in accordance with this opinion.

A Wonderful Cave.—The moat
wonderful cave in the world is in tho

surrounded by the ocean. Thia rock ia
about sixty feet high, and broad pi
portlooately.
Many yeara ago a boy, tho aon of a
native chief, was chasing a huge tur
tle, when hi* game seemed to sink Into
the rock. The lad watched-and waited
until the tide fell, disclosing a small
opening In the rock nhout sii feet un
der low water mark.

this had given him the opportunity to
know this country and people. Tell
ing of it he said: “If I were a rich
man I would found a chair in Oxford
University to teach American geogra
phy.”
This corn-law crusade was like the
ietting out of water, and the torrent
grew in force^and impetus till nearly
all the wrongs and burthens of that
great people have been swept away.
Sir Robert Peel, who said he owed his
change of mind on this great question
to the speeches of Mr. Cobden in Par
liament, left the Tory party and gave
the people cheap brad. *
