Tbe question of the formation of naw
counties w ill come up before the end
of the week. Alieadv steps have been
taken towards allowing certain* pro
posed new county schemes about w hich
there have been contests to be aired in
the legislature. Some amendments are
considered probable to the law govern-
iug the formation of new counties.
The county government law as it
now stands on the statute books is re
garded a 'cumbersome by some of the
membeis, and it is likely that efforts
will be made to amend it. The feature
of the law which makes the chairman
of each of the township boards a mem
ber of the county board of commission
ers lias the result of making the latter
board too large and unwieldy in coun
ties containing a large numberof town
ships, and it is thought that it will be
better to limit the number of members
of the county boards to not more . than
seven. True, this will disturb to some
extent tbe idea of township representa
tion, but it is thought tbat this can be
compromised by two or three Dwn-.
ship* uniting Hi the selection -of ooe of
their number to represent them on tbe
county board of commissionera.
It is said also that ah effort will be
made to let each county regulate for it-

Barnwell Baptist Associathn:
Dear Brethren:
Feeling a deep interest In Ihg sup-
porj of Bro. Wesley Lsd’tvn, our mls-
sionarv in China, and fearing lest the
churches neglect to contribute to that
object, since no one was appointed at
the last meeting of the Association to
look after the mattei; we appeal to
you ail to take it in hand at once.
For two years collections have been
takenjn our cburchcs during the year,
so that we did not have great difficulty
in making up what was lacking at the
meeting of the Association.
Last year we did much better than
tbe year before. Shall we go back

to say. Will you not all take collec

continue it every three months until
the Association meets?
