these halls the students ate under

private families if preferred.

An Interesting nyglenlc discovery
Reported by a Chicago Record corres
pondent traveling in the South Ohio
is that common poke or pokeherry that
grow s in tho pastures or by the road
aide in much profusion Is a certain euro
for obesity. They say that if a fat man
. wiU eat thSm reguUrly, say a couple
of quarts a day, he can reduce liTsHesli
at thejrate of ten pounds a week with
out feeling any dUuorulort and without
altering his diet except to abstain from
potatoes, b.eud or other fattening
foods. This discovery was made by a
farmer, who noticed that the birds that
lived on the pokeberrv patches were al
ways veiY lean. He led the berries to
a bbg as an experiment, and in a couple
of weeks the animal was a skeleton.
They had the same effect upon chick
ens, being blessed With an over-abund
ance of flesh himself, he began eating
them. Within' a month, by the time
tho berries were gone, he had reduced
his weight more than twenty-five
v pounds, and since thou some of ihe
neighbors have adopt** the same cure
with similar n-salt.
