Oh Tuesday morning 4th insi. I and
three others took up the line of match
to Smith's Lake, where we joined four
other tl'h captain* sobn after sun ris*.
We then drew our coffee and took lunch.
N >w you would have been pleaded to
b ive seen us getting off for the place to
li*h. We played liavo.: with the tinny
tribe, bringing in 20 tor dinner anil
some of them were fine. We had plen
ty, as hungry for fish as we were. Wc
went back in the a/remoon ami such a
lish supper you never saw. both stewed
and fried. Next came the battle of Ce
dar Grove, w hicb was fought until sun
rise Wednesday morning, and all eight
of us were w ounded in many places by
the great enemy who attack summer
tisliertrienoti thr river. But we went
luck sud caught plenty for dinner and
some to carry home. As usual we had
our fish dinner auu a peek ot fritters
and some of Mr. F. II. Dickinson’s best
syrup, and.you would have learned how
to enjoy fritters and syrup if you could
have seeims eat.

success we had in drinking coffee. We
made about <i quarts for each meal and
had an abundance uf sugar and drank
all we made, notwithstanding we had
one man with us that we had to entreat
to drink it. After hard begging and a
little coaxing we succeeded in getting
liitn to taste it before ws left the lake.

Our esteemed Brother has gone like the
Autumn leaves to enrich our mother
earth, thereby demonstrating the un
certainty of life and the certainty of
death. Bro. Brabham died not in the
Spring time of life, but after the frost of
four score years had fallen «n his head

sworn and enrolled as an Attorney of
all the courts of South Carolina.
Judge R. C. Watts at Waltcrbnro

mi! to bail In the sum of two thousand
dollars. He executed his bond on
Thursday with Messrs. D. W. RodiforJ
and J. D. Whittle as sureties and was

President Cleveland's official family
is once more full. On Friday Attorney
General Olney was promoted to the
office -of Secretary of State, made va
cant by the death of the late Walter Q
Gresham, and Judge Judson Harmon,
of Cincinnati, was appointed Attorney

A good time coming. On Friday
evening, 28th inst., Col. J. T..Bacon,
the gifted editor of the . Edgefield
Chronicle, will deliver ills famous lec
ture iu Barnwell, Col. Bacon is * man
of rare genius and in advance we ask

wherever he has spoken have given
highly complimentary notices of the
charming manner in which lie lias word
painted his reminiscenses of good old

Dennings Brown, a colored man em
ployed by Capt. Driggs at Denmark,
became overheated on Sunday while
firing up a brick kiln and concluded to
cool off by bathing in a clay hole, con
taining about twelve feet of water. It
waa his last leap as he was quickly
drowned. Another cotOTCtl man saw
him struggling but was afraid to ven
ture to his relief. It is supposed that
he was seized with cramp an 1 became
helpless. No inquest was held.
