Since I laat wrote to your paper the
appearance of Fort Hill ha* changed
Horn deep winter to the approach of
aummer. Clemaon la more on a boom
than ever. The cadet* advertlaed her
f reatlv by going to Rock Hill on the
2th Inatant. Five hundred and forty
cadeta and the faculty left Calhoun Nta
tlon at 4 a. m. of the 12th and went, by
the way of Charlotte, where we marched
through the atreeu, with flying banner
and glittering t meuta to the tune
of ’•T)lxle,” played by the Clemaon
Band. The people of Charlotte aeemed
to be utterly aurpriaed to know that
there w are ao many atmleiiU at Clem
ao i. We arrived nt Rock Hill at lb JO
and were marched to the college ground,
where we htacked anna and were dU-
iniaaed to enjoy mu *el veafuntil the after
noon.
The ground* were covered with peo
ple from all parta of the State. The ima-
piialltyof the projde of Kock Hill can
not he surpaaacd.
The opening of the program for the

the people with great appluuae. The
rogram wn* carried out to perfection,

The hour having arrived for dinner
the eompanlo* were marched to their
re«pectlve tablea and there partook 'of
the deMeaciea prepared by the ladiea of
the city and of the aurroundliig coun
try. The writer haa attended many pie
nlo dinners and of them all thla one
could not bn aurpaaaed.
After dinner the bora had a abort
time to walk around and enjoy them
selves a* they chose.
It waa not long before the 4 o’clock
drum sounded for dresa parade, then
imuld be seen boys in uniform wending
their way to the place w here their afma
were aUcked.
Tbe battalions Were promptly formed
and inarched to the parade ground,
where the drill and parade were execu
te') without a fault before quite a num
ber of men, women and children, The
promptness with which the boys exu-
cuted the commands made the Impres
sion on those present that greatcare bad-
been taken In training them.
After the parade we were marched
through the city to the de|>ot, and in a
few moments wert on our way.
We are greatly pleased with onr trip
to Kock Hill. - Clrmson.

have fallen since the 4th instant have
greatly Improved the oat crop ami there
will be oats enough made, I think, in
this couijty to weather the farmers
through plow season. The rains have
greatly improved the looks of the corn,
cotton and other farm plants ami the
farming Helds begin to look like sum
mer Is near. Everything is happy at Mr.

Politics is the issue of the day over
here in Georgia. The battle l< between
the l>emocratic and People Party. The
election was merely a form to go
through with when t.ie writer Hist
came to Georgia. You can judge for
yourself when the ballot was polled in
one of the managers hands and his over
coat pocket was used as the ballot box.
But H has improved from that to a (utste
board box with a hole cut in the top of-
the lid to poke the ballot through. And
the way the people are taking more and
more Interest in elections,over here it is
not far distant when the tl:: lock ballot
boxes w ill he used In every precinct In
Bulloch county.
As l stated In my letter of April 80th
1 am in my sixth year In Georgia, and
1 have some experience in the differ
ence of living in Georgia and .South
Carolina, ami during this period of time
1 have lived in three dliferent counties,
and thereby t have cx|>erlencud living
by and dealing w ith a goodly number
of strangers. And there have come
from old Barnwell county a great many
families and cast their lots in Bulloch
county to make their support In life. 1
suppose there may he more that aniicl-
pate coming, so I write this for them.

At the Methodist General Conferenee
at Memphis, Tenn., last week, Rev. Dr.
W. D. Kirkland, editor of the Southern
