Much interest was felt in this trial, the

gaged were all younger members of the
Bar, yet they bore themselves like vet
eran*. Each has been complimented
frequently and freely and dekfervedlv.
The court was adjourned upon th * rend
ering of the verdict until .Monday morn-
ing.

The ca«e against Jas. Gary Owens
was taken up Monday morning. He
wa* defended by Patterson A Holman
and I. L. Tobin. The State was repre-
se.ited by W. Perry Mnrphy. A good
jury was easily selected. About twen
ty witnesses were examined. Tbe ar
guments on both shies w^re of high cr *
den. Upon their contdusion <hf court
was adjourned until Tuesday tmrirhing,

Judge the jury retired. Meals were
sent litem and they were made a* com

Tbe jury could not agree upon a ver
dict and a mistrial wa* entered. IP

for manslaughter'. The Judge admitted
him to bail in $4,000.
Tuesday morning the case of Anna
Simms, for forgery, was commenced
but, owing to absence of witnesses,
withdrawn and continued by the Stat>,
defendant to be released upon bond for

on charge of disposing of property un
der Hen. J. K. Davis for defence
Wednesday morning Belton J <hrs
was put on trial for murder. ?

of manslaughter, with recommendation
to mercy. lie was sentenced
years in the penitentiary.

Henry W. Harter, assault and bat

years in the penitentiary.
