L**t there be a concentration of energy ami capital at the** |M>inra and then wm-n suciwaa D assured the multiplication of Factories will follow a* a natural consequence. There D in thi* connection, one fact which l would like to emphasise, it is that the future prosperity of the fann er depend* much upon the develop ment of the towns The foolish preju dice which ha* heretofore existed be tween country aud town must give way to the recognition of the fact that the prosperity of the former depends large ly upon the growth and enterprise of the latter. Let the sensible farmer ask himself why it i* that land w ithin a few miles of Barnwell C. II. sells from $20.00 per acre all the w ay down to $500 per acre w hile fknd similarly situated in refer ence to.New Y'ork City is worth tw’cnty to fifty times as much? It is because Barnwell has a population of 1,500 and New York one of over 1,000,000.- Now suppose Barnwell contained 20,000 in habitants, how would thi* effect the surrounding country? Why there would be 20,000 people and about 5,000 mules and horses and from 000 to 1,000 cows, all non-producing consumers of farm products, right here at our door to drain the farm of everything that Could be raised on It and for miles around. Every cow pea f and corn shuck, to say nothing of graili and veg etables of all kind*, would tind a ready market, which would stimulate their growth to the exclusion of that effete monarch cotton, causing the farmers heart to gladden, his children to bright en and his |»ockeD to fatten, /Tlow every enterprise calculated to Increase the population of the towns contributes that much toward theestab- lishment of the condition of things we have jast supposed, and tbe enlight ened farmer will cheerfully lend them bD aid. * _ Suppose every farmer In tbe county 14 set apart a certain portion ef bis WoJK’rd C'fillt'gr Kitting 11 • *• * I *rA RTAN Bt RU.
