In reply t It Was ever been my Impression that he who sours the newspaper buslnees does ao for hla own benefit, and gives, or should endeavor to give, a good, newsy paper to the people who honor him with their subscriptions; and to do this the editor or his reporters generally see after the matter, and do not sit su pinely down and expect every transac tion to be submitted for publication and begged In. I notice In this to which you allude that the editor of Tub I'bo- rut was on the lookout for whatsoever he could find, and did pick up the pro ceedings. Tbe Harp at this place did the same, but It was sent to neither of them. They asked for the proceedings and got them, and any other paper In tbe oeunty asking for them could have gotten them. 1 do not douhr that your paper has a thousand subscribers, yet you must recollect that there are six other papers in liarnwpll county^nd while I would cheeifuliy give any of them any information that I could, yet 1 know’ of no law, legal or moral, that tequlrea mo to furnish infonuation to a paper unsolicited; especially when the editor of that paper could obtain all ho tvanta by simply walking to the Court House in his own town, as did Major Holmes, of Tiik I'corLX. If you mean to Insinuate that I did not give you the information because you are editing an anti Tillman paper (I being a Tilimanite in to-to) it U not true, for you know that 1 am above such little meannesses, and besides, the side you represent is so small a minority that no Tilimanite would hesitate to give you any Information you might desire, without any danger of injuring his side or helping yours. .
