ing the liquor habit for several years
with great success. Ninety-five out of
every hundred patients doctored at his
saoilnriom go out cured and stay cured.
He considers drunkenness a di-east* and
not a sin, habit or weakness. Branch
hospitals are Iwlug located In different
sections. One has been started in At
lanta. Mr John F Mines, oue of Dr
heely’s patients, gives his experience
as follow s:

my enemy, and only in fate years rec
ognized the fact that drunkenness was
a disease, increased no doubt by indul
gence. but for w hich' a man was no
more responsible than for a fever he
had caught by exposure.”
Such is Mr. Mines’graphic picture of
that terrible disease, the fever of a pe
riodical drinker, the cure of which es
tablishes the Keely treatment of drunk
enness as one of the greatest medical
discoveries. When Mr Mines was un
dergoing treatment at Dwight, he says
his comrades were lawyers, physicians,
editors, merchants, three judges, the
Attorney General of one of the new
States of the West, an ex-Congressman
and am assorted lot of half a dozen .State
{Senators., “Without exception they
were the brightest body* of men I ever
met, and to say that they could meet
and exchange views daily, without In
terference and restraint, and yet be
made the victims of a fraud, is an in
sult to common sense.”
The treatment of Dr. Keely Is, first to
give a hypodermic injection, tour times
a day, and a dose of the bichloride-of-
gold mixture every two hours while
awake. The preparation of both of
these articles is Dr. Keely’a secret, and
that he w ill ..not make it public has
caused him the enmity of the physi
cians. During the treatment the pa
tient is allowed to have as much whisky
as he desires, but after a little his palate
loathes it, and he will return his un
opened Isfftle to the doctor.
Mr. Mines says that after ho had
passed a week in Dwight he felt that if
be had been anywhere else he would
have had a return of the periodical ap
petite. On telling the doctor of this
feeling, he w*as given a half tumbler of
Wbi*.} and told to drink it. He said
no, and has not since touched a drop of
liquor or fell a desire U> do an. ’
‘rFonnerly,” he says, 4 -a drink of
whlsVjr would have set my brain On
fire, and in an hour’s time 1 would have
walked ten miles to get the second one,
and had U at all hazards. When 1 saw
that It had neased to make me its victim
a ad* lave, I would have cried for joy.
I knew from that moment that the Id-
dllorhie of gold had gotten the np|Mrr
fcaa I, broke the feelers of diaraer and
vbohr.'
vote.
Exactly what changes were then
made in the sub-treasury bill, or what
portion or |K>riion* of it will be embod
ied in the new measure have not been
determined u|N»n It is known, how
ever, thst the much talked of Mtanford
land loan bill will not be touched, or
any paragraph in it introduced into the
new- propositions. The Stanford bill
finds little or no favor with Alliance-
men, but contrarily it is thought to be
a detign to help people who already
have a fair share of this world’s goods.
It may and likely w ill be the case that
a bill on the same subject of the Stan
ford bill w ill be introduced under Alli
ance. auspices. This, if presented, will
-provide for the relief of the agricultural
masses of the United States, and for the
promotion and encouragement of farm
ing. lu main features will provide that
any farmer w ho resides on a tract of
land containing not less than ten or
more than .120 acres, and who has at
least one-half of his tract in cultivation
shall be entitled to borrow of the gov
ernment a sum equivalent toone-tulf of
the assessed value of such parcel and
improvements thereon. These loans are
to be made direct from the treasury,
and are to run for hot more than ten or
less than five yeara-fet 2$ per cent. In
terest.
Another measure, the passage of
w hich will be urged, is free coinage.
These three are cardinal propositions
in which the most interest is taken, but
there will be others of greater or less
magnitude. It is highly probable that
a measure will be introduced looking to
government control of railroads and
telegraph systems. Not for their abso
lute purchase but for their control. The
Order w ill go slow on tariff, and that Is
a singular weakness it has exhibited.
That will bring fbf#ard ho tirlff bill,
but will content itself with demanding
the equalization of the tariff so that al)
may alike bear its burdens.
The above furnishes an outline of the
w ork the leaders of the Order have in
band ncw f and which they propose to
urge upon the attention of Congresr,
but as has been stated, there will be
bills to abolish the national hanking
system ami other kindred measures,
which the Democratic members will
find it bard to dodge when they come
up squarely on their merit*.
