The Aiken Journal and Review thinks
aud >aya it was “ungenerous” in this
paper to speak of ex-Preside.nt Cleve
land as a lishennan of leisure. As a
prominent public character Mr. Cleve
land is not above criticism. It may be,
as our cotemporary says, that Mr.
Cleveland when he doe* labor works as
hard art any body else, but the fact re
mains that no professional man w ho has
much todo can spend months in fishing,
Our eotemporary tells u* “it is well
known” that Hill defeated Cleveland in
New York in 18.SS. That excuse has
been pleaded many times by Mr; Cleve
land’s friends, but we have never teen
any proof w hatever given of Itscorrect-
wliess. If our eotemporary can furnish
it good service w ill be done to Mr.
Cleveland’s cause. But until that is
established the Journal and Review is
both unjust and ungenerous to a man
who liaa.wmi; every political tight he
has made on the brief platform of ‘-I
am a Democrat.”
When a man, who has been acting
with the Democratic party, Is getting
ready to jump into the Republican par-
ty, his usual plea U that “there is no
differeuce between the Democratic and

who makes such an assertion is very ig
norant of the country in which he lives.
He does not know how he has been pro
tected. The AtlantaCopstitutiou sums
up the difference thus :
The Republican Farty : Social Equal
