Eugene Blackburn.Gary was born at
Cokesbury, S. C., 22d August 1854,
^completed bis eduoatiou at the State
University and read law 'under his
uncle, the late Gen. Martin Witlier-
spoou Gary. He is practicing law at
Abbeville. .
ATTORNEY GENERAL,
Young John Pope w as born in New
berry, was graduated from Furman
University in I860, entered the Confed
erate Amy in 18GI ami stayed tu ranks
until its close. He was wounded iu five
battles. After the war he studied law’
Iu 1877 he was elected to the Legisla
ture aud served with Leroy F. You-
loaus and Henry A Meetze as Counsel
for tiie Svut* in th« test bond case*
which resulted in a saving to the State
of $1,500,000. He was elected to the
{State {senate in 1888, but will now re-
aign.
