We had a Urge meeting, and mhst of
the intelligent and influential members
of the club were present. Mr. G. E.
Hutto was elected president of the club,'
and Mr. S. C. Williams first vice-presi
dent; Dr. J. (’. McCormack, second
vice-president; Dr. I,. E. M. StKokc,
secretary, and L.* A. Burke, treasurer.
Thdte were some eloquent ^iccches
made by Capt. Vv , J. England, Dr. F.
F. Carroll and the president of the
ciub, and some heated discussions were
indulged in i»y sonje of tlie membert;
who attempted to incorporate in the
resolutions some disrespect to Gen.
Hampton for the pat t taken by him in
the present canvass, but which was
very prompt ly voted dow n, and brought
out some grand eulogies on the eharac-
t ;r and services of Gen. Hampton.
