Col. Jas. G. Gibbs completed last
week his survey of the proposed exten
sion of the Blackville, AUtou and .New
berry Railroad from Seiveru, the pres
ent terminus, to Bateaburg-ou the f -f\

Col. G. says be has “never seen a more
practicable route.”
Mrs. William Barker died on the 30th
ult , at the home of her husband in
George’* Creek Township, aged about
18 years. She was the youngest daugh
ter of Mr. W. T. Cave, and had lieen
married lesstliau a year. Many friends
aympathizM with the bereaved husband
and parents in their great sorrow.
Tim Enterprise Company sold its cot
ton ginning and* packing plant to the
Oil Mills on Monday, and bought$1,500
worth of machinery from Vale, Smith
A to., of New Jersey, through their Co
lumbia agent, Mr. V. C- Badkam. It
expects to begin the manufacture of
doors, sash and blinds within six weeks.
The Dime Reading in the Brown
House Parlors rfn Tuesday evening for
the benefit of the. Episcopal church
was well attended, all went honTe glad
that they had gontfand ready to come
again soon. The pleasure given was
much greater than the cash receipts,
although the-e last were larger than
w ere looked for.
CoronerS. L. Peacock held an inquest
at Elko on the 30th ult., on the body of
Betsy Singleton, colored, aged 59. who
had died suddenly the day before.
Heart failure was the cause of her
death as testified by Dr. W. C. Smith.
As she was a pauper her remains were
- refused a resting place in the colored
cemetery, because the admission fee of
$1.50could not be paid. Sue was accor
dingly carried to more hospitable
ground.
The suit of the heirs of the fate Wil
liam Nimnions against the heirs of the
Me Bishop McT yeire lias been compro
mised. The case was this: By Ins last
will Mr.* Nimmons gave'a valuable
tract of land in George’s Creek-Tow n-

that he made it his home. The Bishop
took the rente during his life but did
not move on the land. After his death
the Xbuniong heirs entered suit for re
covery. By the settlement the plain
tiffs get half the l*nd, the defendants
keeping the balance.

Mr. II. C. Bow ers, formerly of this
county, died on the 30th ult., of intesti
nal consumption in Augusta, where he
had resided for several years. lie was
a member of Vigilant Lodge, No. 2,
Knights of Pythias. A delegation
from his lodge escorted ids remains to
thra place, where they- were taken
charge of by Williston Lodge, No. 21.!
Eighteen members accompanied his !
bodv to the old Gardner place, 12 miles
S. W.of this place, and performed the
last sad testimonial of brotherly love
which the living can pay to the dead.
His life was insured for $3,000 w ith the
Knights of Pythias, which sum will be

Disqualified Voters.
At the last session of the legislature
an act was passed providing for a mode
of ascertaining tlie names of registered
voters convicted of disqualifying
crimes. The clerk of the'court is. re
quired, on or before the tifteenth day
of October, 1890, to furnish tlie sujiervi
sor of registration with a complete list
of all male persons convicted of trea
son, murder, robbery, or dueling, from
the 26th day of April, 1868, up to the
first day of January, 1883, and ot aU
persons convicted of treason, murder,
burglary larceny, perjury, forgery,
or any other infamons crime, or duel
ing, since the first day of January,
1883. • All such reports must be accom
panied by the certificate of the clerk.
So is every trial justice required, to
make out under his hand and seal a cer-

be submitted to the supervisors of reg
