’ Kashi, the Japanese pear, is in
•DO about tha middle of daptember.
Its form is like that of many Ameri
can apples, round and somewhat
flattened at both ends. It is not
pyriform, or pear shaped, os we
utoderstaod the word, at all. They
are large, about throe 'inches in
diameter, with thick, rough skint
of a ruwet or brouse yellow col
or. The akin it also covered with lit-.
tie gray spots. The varieties do not
differ much either in sire, shape, color
or flavor, whereat the American vari-
epea differ enormously in all these re-
specta. The flesh is rather course, of
a light yellow color, very mrejrbut
flnu ana not mellow, and kekt on
tiraly the aroma and flavor of the
American pear. They seem to me
watery and as destitute of flavor as a
potato. They are, however, largely
grown and much liked by the Japan
ese.—Uor. Detroit Free Prcaa.
