I am going fishing to-morrow and
stay all day. I w ill rig up a big w agon
and take the children along and a bas
ket of lunch, and we will tisli and frolic
and gather flowers and eat and talk and
laugh and get dirty all day long. The
signs are all right, for the w ind is in
the south and it is the dark of the moon,
and I think I see myself just jerking
the big bream from, under the log. (,’arl
knows every hole in the crerk^ and lie
can catch uiore flsh than J can and don’t
try half «« hard. ,Jessie wants to pick
flower*, and I’ve promised her she may
wade in the branch, but her mother
don’t know It. Jessie comes to me and
Carl goes to his mother for favors.
What a pity it is that grown folks can’t
lie children once or twice In awhile and
wade in the branch too. The next time
Judge Bleckley goes to Screamer moun
tain to be a hoy again and go barefooted
and nuke hickory whistles and chest
nut tffes and catch spring lizard* and
crawflsh and climb trees for birds’ eggs,
and make blaok ants tight, and run
gr mud squirrel* to their holes and dig
angelic and kill snakes and wreck hor
nets’ nests and tight yalierjackets. I’m
going with him. Dm tired of playing
man all the year long without a recess.
It Is a sort of a hy)>ocrittcal life. I envy
the children. The Hcriptures aay "un
less ye be as one of these little unes. jre
shall not get to heaven.” So U’s time
Ft begin, and therefore I’m goingafish-

Goose Poxd Pic Nic.—And all who

the most delightful of tire long series
that has made the hospitality of the peo

hundred* of happy hearts
with sweet music, trin-

man that Is more righteous than he."
Then followed the examination of the
pupil* wlioee improvement in study and
progress in education gave the greatest
satisfaction to their parents, relative*
and friends. All acquitted themselves
creditably hut particular mention Is
proper ot the manner in which Lucius
Haiikinson, Samuel Williams, Charlie

Alzena Garvin stood theirexamiiiHtioua

in arithmetic, computing simple inter

other branches the other pupils showed

the day w as the slrotijg and manly ora

on the assassination of Lincoln and Gar

present expressed their great satisfac

school trustee from Rosemary township,
Cupid Dyches, leader of the Union
Dyches Band, Jacob Hanfinson, Se.ipio
Williams and Frank Garvin, tins last
seeming to be enthused with ioy, used
the following language: "We believe

must say that Professor Carter is doing
a grand and good work in the Red Oak

work that lie lias done is guarantee that

C. Sheppard tells tiie following good
swiry of how and why he followed a
mule. “It was several years ago, and
in the spring preceding a campaign
season. The “horny hand of the work
ing man” was a popular refrain, and
Mr. Sheppard, being a candidate in
prospective, and not willing to admit,
like the Western candidate, that he was
“not much of a lawyer,” eonolufhMl
that he could obscure a brilliant repu
tation in that line by more brilliant
achievements as an agriculturist. Ac
cordingly he had a mule geared and
hitched to a plow, and taking the lines
placed himself between the handles and
directed the animal to tho field selected
for the day’s operations. The Held was
directly on the big road, which fact, It
was con Aden tly expected, would prove
a trump card in winning for him the
cherished agricultural reputation. But
aias! for the vanity of human calcula-
tions, for to his disappointment and ut
ter disgust not a living sou] passed the
road during the entire day. And witlf
the day ended his walk between the
plow handles. But he was elected all
the same. «
