and Roslindaie, at wliat is known as Bussey
Park Bridge. The 7 o’clock train from
Dedham, consisting of seven cars and bag-
ge car, under charge of Conductor Ti
broke through the bridge. The en

ginc and three cars went ovei' safely, but
; nve others fell through life bridge to the
" road beneath, a distance of 30 feet. The
last car, which was the smoker, turned
completely over and struck on top of the
others, all being crushed almost out of
shape.
The cause of the accident is said to have
been the breaking of the bridge. It is
stated that the bridge is a coiupaintively
new one, and that the accident was caused
by a truck of one of the cars giving away,
causing the car to strike against the abut
ment of the, bridge.
The smoking car after It fell caught fin 1 ,
but the tire department was promptly on
liaml ami prevented any spread of the
flames. The bodies of the dead have all
been removed, and of the wounded some
arc at hospitals and some have been taken
home. The latest estimate of the casualties
is 32 killed and about 30 wounded.
That the horrors of tire were not added
to the terrible disaster was duo to the
promptness with which relief was sent. A
chemical engine from Koaliodale was at
the scene within 30 minutes after the
wredt “occurred, brought by a lettcr-car-
• rlcr, who gave an alarm of fire upon oh
serving flames issuing.from the debris. The
flames were soon extinguished and the fire
men then did excellent work in rescuing
the injured. The stoves iu all the cars
were securely fastened to the floors by iron
bolts and the doors of the stoves were
locked. In only one car did the stove up
set, although in one instance a stuse was
smashed clear througli the #«of of flic
in which it luul been.

any extent in New Orleans. There are
now under treatment in the Charity Hos
pital no less than 18 cases. I am infonned
that the victims of tbe disease do not know
‘with what they are ufllicted, and are going
about their usual vocations. One of these,
a woman, is a cook.
I am told the nature of their disease is
concealed so as to spare them from Isola
tion. Perhaps the distinguished medical
gentlemen at tbe hospital know best what
is proper in the premises, but the unpreju-
diccd observer would say, far better these
unfortunates be shunned and forced into
isolation than that they spread the malady
by contact and by bearing children,,which
they are now in danger of doing inno

Those “Holiness Evangelists.'’
A special to the AVw* and Cvvrior, dated
Raleigh, N. C., March 14, says: “Yester
day a party of people known as ‘Holiness
Evangelists’ arrived here. Some were
white and some colored. In the afternoon
one of them—a wonum—preached on the
street. Last night they went to the col
ored churches, where the most extraordi
nary scenes occurred. The Evangelists
told the negroes that all jewelry must be
given up. They took earrings from the
ears of negro women, and they took also
other jeweirv. They kept this and have
not returned it. To day the negroes are
greatly excited aliout this matter, and have
made complaint to the Mayor. One of the
Evangeli«s is reported as having pulled
down pictures in the colored church, say
ing they must '« burned. .Mayor Dodd
issued orders this afternoon that hereafter
neither these Evangelist* nor the B&lvation
Army shall be allowed to conduct services
oa the streets. These Evangelists are said
to be the same who were ordered out of
Columbia, 8. C., by a vigilance committee.”

The Adams Express Company received
at Dalton, Indiana, on the 10th a barrel
irom New York, via the New York. A
New England railroad, for delivery to the
American Express Company and to lie for
warded to parties in New Brunswick. The
American Express Company refused to re

picious marks on it resembling blood. The
