Bishop Howe will make his official
visit to this town, on March 23d. The

famous Georgia electric well last^week.

hours daily, for three days, at the bot
tom of the well, paying for this privi
lege one dollar per diem. His rhentns-
tiem was not alleviated in the least. He
did not feel the slightest electric ting
ling. The wall la fourteen feet deep,
with a stone at the bottom. In one cor

spring water with a decided mineral

Complaints of bod seasons, short crops
and low prices were more general and

of Heptember are over two hundred
and seventy-eight thousand bales ahead
of those of the previous season.
This Increase comes principally from
the South-West, where Immigration
and onterprise are annually enlarging

crops should be mads all over the Mouth,

and mi motion Gen. Johnson Hagood
w a* unanimously added as an honorary
member of the Board.
Yhe following Resolutions were, then
adopt«4:
He tolled Ipt, That It Is the sense of this
meeting that the Town Council should
aid the Graded Mefiool as far as may be
possible, and that thw^Trustees be au
thorized to appcpaclt said Council and
request them to make suefi'-oppropria-
tlon for the maintenance of the aj-bool
as mav to them seem proper and eqi
ble.
2nd, That the Trustees lie instructed
to procure such legislation as will ob
tain aa much of the two mill school tax
and poll tax as practicable for the use
of the Graded School.
3d, That legislation be also procured
authorising the Trustees to levy, If nec
essary, a special tax not to exceed two
ntllls npon the real and |>ersotial prop
erty of the school dUtrlft.
4th, That other and necessary mat
ters of organization and conduct of the
school be referred to the Board of Trus
tee* with full power to act.
The Board then elected as permanent
officers, G. Duncan Bellinger, (’hair-
man; Geo. H. Bates, Hecretary, and A.
P. Manville, Treasurer.
Having determined the mxtnd lim
its of the School Diatiiet'lhe Bfiard, by
resolution, appoint#*!* Chairman to
procure the assistance of Judged. J.
Maher in drafting and submitting to
the Legislature an Act which should
embrace the object* and carry into ef
fect the recommendation* of the Board
as expressed In sundry resolution*
adopted from time to time.
The Act was submitted to the LegU-
lature and in due time that body passed
the same. A reference to said Act will
•bow the area of tile School District;
the name# and manner of election of
the Traeteea; theft powers and duties,
and the necessary officers, their juri#-

at which it was resolved that a Graded
NcImmjI be established In the Town of
Barnwell. A committee was appointed
to consider.and devise the means of car-
rring this resolution Inin effect. At an
adjourned meeting that committer re
ported, and after discussion It was de
rided to erect a suitable building by pri
vate subscription to be held and owned
hv the subscriber* as a joint stock asso
ciation, and that thewayaand means of
maintaining the school hr reserved for
future consideration.
A Building Committee w as appointed
at this meeting ronaistlng of Johnson
Hagood, Chairman, and other* lo he se
lected hy him, with plenary powers In
the premises. The chairman associated
with himself G. D. Bellinger, l^eroy
Molair, A. P. Manville. O. II. Hales,
Mike Brown, W. K. Christie and W. II.
Hagood. J. J. Maher and Robert Aid
‘neb, Kaqrs., gave valuable service In
such legal matters as occurred.
A sulnirriptlou was opened and re
sulted In the pledging of $3070.1X1, each
subscriber giving hl» not* payable on
1st of October thereafter for tne amount
of his subscription. A copy list of these

The Rulldlng Committer determined
ujam the location of the building on
Marlboro Avenue, and purchased
thereon a lot containing about one and
a half acres; taking tit lea to the chair
man In trust for the Association. Tbey
also negotiated the opening oL a street
deemed necessary to tiie convenience of
the school from Marlboro Avenue to
Madison Street and dedicated It to the
public hy taking tlie titles to the chair
man In trust to the Tow n Council of
Barnwell. These papers duly executed
and recorded are herewith subthitted.
Information was sought and obtained
a* to the most Improved method* of
*c*hont hotrseconstruction, a plan seloct-
*d and sealed bids Invited by public ad
vertisement for the erection of thebuilji-
tng—reserving the right to reject any
and all bids. Mr. J. IV. Woodward was
the lowest bidder, and with some modi
fication a contract was concluded with
him to erect a building calculated for
one hundred pupils at the round sum of
$2200310. The milldlng was completed
according to specifications and accepted
by the committee, since when furniture
and fittings have been purchased and
put in the same. A policy of Insurance
for $2260.00 has been taken out upon the
building and furniture. The Treasur
er’s account with all funds coming into
the hands of the Huilding Committee
with projier vouchers is appended,-^

In the discharge of the duty with
which they were charged your commit
tee have been met by an exhibition of
public spirit that has made their task
agreeable, and thev congratulate the
Association upon the accomplishment
of what they consider a step in the di
rection of the best interests of our com
