It ia made known through the Pinker
ton detectives that they h»ve captoreil
and taatened the evidence upon five men,
who were concerned in the robbery of
the * (buns Express car oq the 8t. Louis
gad Hon Francisco Railroad on the night
of October 25, thirty-six miles from St.
Louis. The' most important clue was
obtainable through the “Jim Cum
mings" letters to a St. Louis paper wliich
were written by Fred Witrock, who,
with a man named Weaver, both engaged
in business in Chicago, were the princi-
1*1* in the affair. A i>ortion of the
*K),000 stolen was recovered from the
five men, from Witrock'n wife and from
an innocent stranger, who liad in good
faith undertaken to hold St,500 for
Witrock. The detectives refuse to say
whether Express Messenger Frothing-
ham was concerned in the crime.

To-night the Pinkerton detective
ofhcieLi revealed tjie facts of the arrest
of five men for the robbery of the
Adams Express car of $00,000 on the St.
I/mi« and Han Francisco Railroad on the
night of October 25. The men under
am-st are Frederick Witrock, who is the
author of the “Jim Cummings" letters,
and is claimed to l>e the man who ]ier-
l>etrateil the robbery; W. W. Haight, an
ex-employee of Kxpnas ('..mpanv, who
is supposed to have aided in planning
the robbery from hit knowledge of the
railroad “run;" Thomas Weaver, »

AVheii Kinney reappeared he waa
searched and $1,000 in iboee money waa
found on his penon, while in a belt
around his waist waa found $4,000 addi
tional. Them men were ironed and taken
to the Pinkerton Agency in a close car
riage. A search of the Witrock house
resulted in finding a skirt on Mrs. Wit
rock into which $1,900 was sewed in $50
notes. A bunch of money, $450 in all,
was also found on her person, together
with 4 earat diamond. Weaver was ar
rested in the coal yard about the same
time, and in the basement of his house
was found $3,000 in some fruit jars.
The arrest of Coolt and Haight was then
ordered by telegraph.

With the advent of the pugnsciou* Eug-
gUsh sparrow, which, if it carried a hip-
pocket, would moat certainly be liable to

tive agents uf the street-cleaning depart
ment fight among themselves with extreme
desperation and a fearless disregard of tlieir
surroundings. Yesterday afternoon two of
them, for reasons best known to them
selves, came to an issue, and, seeking u
clean place on the sidewalk in Main street,
went at each other in an awfully wicked
way. There were no police in sight to xiop
the mill, (did soon the two birtli were sur
rounded by a dense crowd of men. The
little belligerents clutched and scratched
and presumably swore at each other iu
choice sparrow talk. One of the bystatnl-
ers finally stooped down and picked th* in
up. They perched in his hand and fought
with unabated fury. Then he pulled them
apart, but they fluttered back to the side
walk and clinched again. Once more he
raised them in his hand, and witli the Kitnc
result. Again he drew them apart and
again they returned to the icy pavement
and a settlement of their difference. The
crowd became excited and made a rush fur
the centre. The principals, amazed at this
wholesale interference, took Might and set
lied on the telegraph wire above. There
they perched and pecked away at cacfi
other with a ferociousness that was j*osi-
tivcly liarbaric. After some minutes one
took flight, ami, followed by his still angry,
chattering antagonist, disappeared over the
adjacent roofs in the direction of the spar

have gone to Kansas City, where he
lived at the house of a woman named

himself with Cook and accompanied him
to gambling houses in the guise of a
friend, Cook always having plenty of
money. The lookout for Witrock waa
kept iip in Chicago without avail until
last Tuesday night, when another
“shadow,” whom the detective* did not
know, and a large man looking likl
Witrock entered Witrock's residence,
No. 10 Lincoln street. Kinney was run
ning the coal yard for him, and having
gone to Quincy a detective managed to
see there u telegram to Kinney announc
ing the return of Witrock to Chicago,
ana signed by the latter’s wife, Rose.
FINDING MAX AND MONEY.
When Kinney returned to Chicago he
and Weaver were seen to cautiously en
ter the Witrock House, the blinds of
which were constantly drawn, although
light* could be seen inside. On Friday
morning the mysterious shadow came
out of the Witrock House, as did also
Kinney, and, after making a careful sur-

ktreet near Lincoln. Robert A. Pinker
ton and two operatives shadowed the
place until Kinney went out when they
entered nnd arrested Witrock after s

The ceremony was brief and original, last
ing only two minutes. Congratulations
followed. The bride was dressed in steel
