The first annual pic-nic at Goose Pond
Park last Friday was a complete success.
Notwithstanding the threatening of the
clouds in the morning, a large crowd gather

Dinner was p eutiful and well managed.
Dancing, electioneering, and courting
were the prominent features of ihe day.
Goose Pond Park, with its splendid pavil
ion and beautiful surroundings, promises to
be the favorite pic nio resort of Darnwell
County.

pasture fencing were blown dow n; and so

On the 1st hist., the colored distiller on
Dr, Morrall's turpentine farm took the place
of a teamster who was sick While driving
a wagon fiom the woods loaded with crude
turpentine, a wheel struck asihall stump in
the rood and the distiller was thrown far ;
ward on ilie rallies ; they, taking flight, ran
away ami the distiller was thrown eo vio
lently against a tree that he died from his in-

Damaged Corn as a Mule Killer.—
Wc have learned of several farmerejin
this county and throughout the State
who have already loet fine mules this
season by feeding them on western
corn that bad been damaged. How
ever, some of them contend that It docs
not pav to ndto* com, but they can pay
from 81 to 8125 per buahel for West
ern corn that often kills riiefr stock
when they are fed on It. Bad corn
will kill a good mule as quick rs it will
a poor one, end with the loss of muh-s
and paying such bfah price for the

pound wherewith to meet his losses on
