A reunion during the next State Fair in
Columbia. Judge Wallace has beca in
vited to deliver an ad drew descriptive of
the stormy days of December 188t5.
The State Fair laat week was the moi-t

ticca in the county have complied with
the law requiring them to submit their
books tor the inspection of the Grand
Jury for several years. It dous not look

The public roads throufdtout the conn-
ly are generally in bad condition. This
is due principally to the iut ffideney of
the orersevts and township supervisors
aud the negligence of the County Com-
inissionera. TTieir highest a Dilution m* ms

our censure. Special complaints have
been made of the bad condition of the
road from Barnwell 0» II. to Buford s
Bridge, of the hill at Patterson’s mill on
the Lower Bens and of the rued from
Barawell C, II. to the upper h'altke>
itotchie bridge. This last in loss than
two Biles long and over it the citizens of
live or six townships come to the oouutj'
seat. For years it has been an eyesore
End grievance. It can be ufede an ex
cellent road. On Tuesday there «as

worn and need for improvement

witnesses and jurors by either requiring
the reservation of u sufficient fuud or au
thorizing tiie County Commissioners to
borrow such funds as may be necessary,
not exceeding $4,UU0 p' T year.
That James U. Cooper be required to
strengthen his bond as County Coiuuiis*
sioovr which was reported t*t a previous
term as insufficient.
That it public, sentiment favors and
the public good requires the repeal of
the existing prohibitory laws, nod we so
understand the situation, that our Sena
tor and Representatives will be guided
by the public wish iu seeing that the
conditions upon which licenses sba'I be
granted shall be high license and •trict
regulations, and that three fourths of all
sums received for licenses shall be cov
ered into the County Treasury for scho d
purposes.

speaking for the people of this county,
wc declare ttieir profound grief at the
death of the late Solicitor of this Circuit,
Frederick Hay Gantt. The world can
never know his relations to us. Here be
was born td an honored ancestry ; here
be grew to simple, strong, virtuous man
hood, End when war clouds darkened the
sky he went nWay to the struggle, ohar
ing with the men of Carolina, on 'he sa-
ctcd Virginian soil the baining I tea's of
summer and the pain and want of whtry
days, tenderly burying the slain, gently
eating for llte wounded and bravely clos
ing up their thinning ranks.
And when all was lost sar6 honor he
lad the survivors hack to their wasted
homes and taught them and weeping wo-
m .
