Bei J>tmin Franklin has left us the best
social example. He wa* a plnlq man.
He ha-1 been a mechanic and was the
son of a mechanic. At one time In his
career he was sent as an ambassador
from this country to France. He found
himself suddenly plunged into the
most brilliant society of the world. In
stead of trj ing to Imitate what he saw,
Franklin kept his simple grave dlgnl
ty, hts Q laker dress and plain lan
guage. The result was that tbe Paris
ians made a demigod of him. Men of
the highest rank paid him homage,
and beautiful women cut off his but
tons for souvenirs. Franklin became
the central figure of the most splendid
court in Europe, and the French capi-'
tal is still full of his traditions. This
shows how far common sense will go.
