Rube Wilson, the star center of
the Whizz Kids, who has been
laid up while recovering from the
effects of an operation, will be
back in action next week. The

nual Women’s Amateur Golf Tour
nament to be held at the Camden
Country Club Tuesday, Jan. 31.
Approxfanatety 20 local lady
amateurs are expected to file en-<
tries before tournament time. From
Orangeburg Mrs. Jane Crum, last
year’s tournament winner, has an
nounced herself a contestant again
this year, and Miss Priscilla Buck-
ley, runnar-up last year, has also
announced that she plans to enter.

the winners of the tournament,

from the opening whistle. At the
half Camden held a 16 to 14 edge.

seconds of the end of the battle
were ahead.

BARON DEKALB OPENS FEB. 6

Tournament to be held this year at Baron DeKalb H g
school, beginning Monday, Feb. 6. , ,
As the season of regularly sched
uled contests draws to a close. In
terest and competitive spirit is run
ning high among the participating
schools in anticipation of the
event.
The tournament will mate girls’
and boys’ teams from each of the
schools in a four-game-a-night,
five-day schedule to determine the
winner through el’ir'nation.
Acording to tournament rules, a
team will be eliminated after los
ing two games. Games will begin
promptly at 6 o’clock, and will be
played one an hour, with girls’ and
boys’ teams alternating on the
evening’s schedule.
Citizens rrom every community
are expected to follow their teams
to the tournament and large
crowds are expected nightly. The
new Baron DeKalb gymnasium,
which ia expected to be formally
dedicated before the tournament’s
opening, will provide excellent fa
cilities for both crowds and play
ers.
The six schools to be represent
ed by a boys’ and a girls’ team In
the tournament thir year are An
tioch, Baron DeKalb, Bethune,
Blaney, Midway and Mt. Pisgah.
The committee responsible for
the organization and staging of
the tournament includes, H. W.
Hast, chairman; El A. Williams
and Ford B. Stanton.
Monday light’s games, the first
in the elimination process will
match the Antioch and Midway
boys’ and girls’ teams at 6 and 7
o’clock, and the Baron DeKqflb
and Blaney boys’ and girls’ teams
at 8 and 9 o’clock. On Tuesday
night, the winner-loser schedule
that has been worked out will go
into effect, and will be used to
determine the rest of the matches.
