income-tax dates with the federal
government next month. They funds due
are the familiar Jan. 19 and a
new one, Jan. 31.
Jan. 15 is the day for filing
declarations of estimated tax and
paying that tax on IMS income.’
These estimates and payments
may be made earlier if the tax
paying farmer desires, but Jan.
15 is the final day.
However, if a farmer files his
final return for IMS and pays
the tax in full for .that, year on
or before Jan. 31, he if not re
quired to make out an estimated
tax return. That is a new pro
vision of the income tax law^
Previously farmers were re-
J uired to make final returns by
an. 15 if they wished to avoid
filing estimated tax return*.
Taxpayers other than fanners
who are required to file esti
mates still mast make a final
return by Jan. 15 if they want
to avoid the work of making an
estimate otherwise due on that
date. The tax law defines a
farmer as one who receives two-

Suppose you are married and
have a dependent child. You get
a total of $1,800 exemptions. Sky
all your 1940 income was wares

need not file a tax estimate un
less those wages exceeded $6,300.
A final return is made on Form
1040. Farmers use both Form
1040 and Form 1040-F. If you file
a declaration of estimated tax,
you make it on Form 1040-es.
These forms may be obtained
at the office of the Collector of
Internal Revenue for the district
in which you reside or do your
business. Or you may be able to
get them from a local bank, post-
office or a county agent.
