Bill Darden, son of Mr. and Mrs. George R. Darden, Fair street, arrived on Saturday to spend the Christmas holidays with his parents. Miss Margaret Clarke of Rich mond, Va., will arrive on Satur day to spend the holidays with her mother, Mrs. Maurice Clarke, Chesnut street. She will be accom panied by Miss Agnes PeUegrin of Richmond, who will be her house guest for Christmas. Mrs. Elizabeth S. Bolte will arrive on the Silver Meteor from Washington, D. C., on Friday to 1 spend Christmas with • her son, Steve Bolte, and her mother, Mrs J. A. Sterne. Greenleaf Villa. Friends or Walter W. Robinson, 1301 Lyttleton street, will regret to learn that he is a patient at the Naval Hospital, Charleston, where he will undergo an opera tion on Saturday. Mrs. Robinson will spend Christmas with him in Charleston. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph R. White and son, Riggie, will leave on Friday to spend the Christmas holidays with relatives in Greens j boro, N. C. They will be ac companied by Jimmy Rhame, who will visit his grandmother, Mrs. J. W. Daniel. I Miss Joan Schlosburg left on Friday to spend the holidays with Mr. and Mrs. S. F. Fox and their son, Stanley H. Fox, in Oxford, N. C The weddingt of Miss Schlosburg and Mr. Fox will be a social event of February in Camden. i • • • * • Square Dance Given For Patricia Knight ,On Fourteenth Birthday Mrs. T. W on Tuesday 20th, with a square or of her daughter, Patricia, on her fourteenth birthday. The party was given at the Teen Age Canteen and was at- 1 tended by- over fifty of the high school and preparatory school boys and girls. The canteen was decorated with evergreens, holly and wreaths in each window. A huge lighted tree filled one end of the roo mand a string band, led by Curley Thrift, played for dancing. "Mac” Sheheen called the figures and all the partici pants, in their blue jeans and '‘loud” shirts, cut quite a figure in the dance sets. During intermission delicious refreshments were served, con sisting of sandwiches, Coca-Colas, candy and cookies, by Mrs. Knight, assisted by Mrs. George Chewmng, Jr., Mrs. Caleb Stoken, Mrs. Harvin Smith, canteen host ess and her daughter, Billy Smith, and Mrs. Russell Roberts. 705-J Dinner and Dance For Employees Is Given By J. t. Penney Co. Highlighting the Christmas soc ial season was the dinner and dance given by the J. C. Penney Co. for its employees of the Cam den store, On Tuesday evening in the Hunt Room at Hotel Sars- field. Yuletide decorations were used on the tables and elsewhere in the room and following the tur key dinner, the guests gathered around the large Christmas tree where gifts were exchanged. Hugh Ashworth, assistant man ager of the local J. C. Penney Co. acted as toastmaster and intro duced the guests. After many hilarious games and contests, dancing was enjoyed un til midnight. Those attending this outstand ing affair were A. Clifton Me Kain, manager of the store and Mrs. McKain, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Ashworth, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Robinson, Mr. and Mrs. W. P. McKnight, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Arnold, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Mickle, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Ross, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Weathers, Mr. and Mrs. Jessie Sublett, Mr. and Mrs. A1 Burch, Mr. and Mrs. Le roy Hough, Mrs. Grover Ander son, Mrs. Stella Lyons, Mrs. Lloyd Smyrl, Mrs. Rena Young, Voncile Munn, Barbara Watts, Francis Truesdale, Charles Rab- on, Roland Rabon, Charles Mc Coy, Billy Holland, Charles Smith, and Dickie McManus. ^ • V Miscellaneous Shower For Bride - Elect Miss Sue Rush was hostess'Hon last Thursday evening at a psftty and miscellaneous shower in hon or of Miss Jane Sinclair, bride- elect. The party was given at the home of Miss Rush’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alva G. Rush, on Laurens street and a Christmas motif was carried out effectively in the house decorations and the refreshnMats. Games and contests were play ed and prizes were won by Miss Cleo Barfield and Mrs. Betty Glasier, who in turn presented them to the honor guest. Follow ing the games A1 Martin, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Martin, Jr. (Doris Rush) of Anderson, rolled in a wagon full of gifts brought by the guests and gave them to Miss Sinclair, who was also given a corsage by the hostess. Miss Rush was assisted in serv ing by her mother, Mrs. Alva G. Rush. Camden Garden Club . Has December Meeting At Home Of Mrs. Kemson The Camu-ci Garden Club held its December meeting at the home of Mrs. Edwin Kerrison. Minutes of the Novem ber meeting, roll call and reports then followed in regular order at routine business. Several recommendations from the executive board were present ed for the approval of the club. These were accepted, by vote, as they were read. Mrs. L. I. Guion gave a most interesting report on the Arbor Day program, whic hthe club had sponsored, during Conservation Week at both the white and col ored schools. Interesting programs were put on by the pupils and excellent speakers had presented interest ing and valuable information. A large and well-shaped holly tree had been planted near the new Junior High building. Prizes were offered to the pupils of the Jun ior High for essays relating to I the value of trees. A letter from Mrs. Holt Dye, president of the Garden Clubs of South Carolina, was read. Mrs. Dye urged the Camden Garden Club to go ahead with the project of building a “turnout”, or rest ing place for travelers, along U. S. Highway No. 1, somewhere in the vicinity of Camden, as a part of the effort to beautify the Blue Star Route through South Caro lina. Mrs, DuBose read an invitation from Mrs. John S. Davidson, president of the Kershaw Garden Club, to visit that club’s “Christ mas House” on the following Fri day. At the conclusion qf the busi ness session, Mrs. Reuben Pitts, program chairman, invited the members to see the lovely Christ mas arrangements which Mrs. Frank W. Spenser had made so effectively for demonstration. Then Mrs. Pitts lead the way to the porch where she had as sembled a fascinating array of material from which Christmas corsages could * be fashioned. Everybody was urged to get busy and make one of her own design ing. Many lovely corsages were made, Mis. ’Joseph Brunson win ning first prize for hers and Mrs. Frank Spenser, second. Tea was served in the dining room from a table beautifully decorated in holiday fashion with a profusion of berries and red candles in silver candelabra. Mrs. Kerrison was assisted in enter taining by Mrs. A. S. Llewellyn, Mrs. J. B. Zemp and Mrs. L. I. Guion, Sr. • • • • • BIRTH Mr. and Mrs. Dargan Jennings announce % the birth of a son, on Tuesday, December 20, at the Camden Hospital. He has been named Dargan Stuart Jennings. Mrs. Jennings is the former Joyce Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter C. Smith, Mill Street. daughter Betty Smith, of Kan napolis, N. C. The wedding of Mis* Sinclair and L. T.
