m i.nro baseball, but they were
finitely interested In adopting
„t stringent rules and regula
rs for the leaqse. Among the
, m8 which came up for dtocusalon
)re player salary limit, club
ary limit, ItanlUtioa of club
iter and the question of terrl-
t from which to draw players.
ie question of player or club

[ore and the matter has always
tn left for each chib to set Ita
a limit. According to reports
l0 some of the clubs this has
runted to each club paying all
j funds they receire at the gate
i all they can get by public sub-
Iptlon and donations to keep a
mlng club going. The question
territory from which each club
,y draw players has been limited
a definite radius. The lesgue
■rated for Mine time with a
Hus of 26 miles mid the past
ir it was Increased t6 40 miles
iwing each club atoo to obtain
ir beyond that limit Borne argue
it if a player salary limit and
lub salary limit are fixed s bet-
brand of bail can ha provided
allowing each club unlimited
ritory from which to draw
yera.
The towns represented at the
>rgetown meeting last week in-
ded: Lake City, Orangeburg,
Igstree and Georgetown. The
lowing recommendations were
ipted by that group to be pre-
tad to the longue at the meet-
here Friday afternoon for their
sld era ties: u
1. Reorganise the league lo
ng all old members to- join.
2. Establish a definite player
[ club salary limit. ’
l- Allow clubs to draw players
n aa unlimited territory.
L Define definitely the powers
duties of the league president

The Better Business Division of
the Sumter Chamber of Commerce 1
this week sent out a warning to
people to be on their guard for
Christmas racketeers and schem
ers. These cheap tricksters not
only seek to involve the unin
formed individuals, but are bold
enough to try their antics and ex
tortion rackets on experienced
business men. Some of the things
to be on the lookout for are:
1. Collection of C. O. D. charges
from neighbors on gift packages
filled with unordered goods, on
the representation that the ad
dressee is “not at home now.”
2. Solicitation of funds for
Christmas baskets by high pres
sure promoters who pocket all or
most of the funds collected.
*• >The solicitation of Christmas
advertisements for questionable
or non-existent publications.
4. Collection' of deposits for
Christmas photographs by phony
photographers who fail to deliver
Any. pictures.
5. The isle by sidewalk hawkers
of gift merchandise which can be
found at much lower prices in
reputable stores.
4. The shipment of unordered
gift merchandise to retail stores
in the hope that they will mis
takenly accept and pay for it, dur
ing the Christmas rush.
7. . Mail appeals at Christmas
time from unknown charitable or
ganisations or individuals in dis
tant cities in the form or a re
quest for a donation for some
merchandise enclosed with the ap
peal, such as handkerchiefs, pen
cils, neckties, etc.
5. The passing of bad checks
on the purchase of gifts merchan
dise particularly of an amouht far
in excess of the actual purchase
price.
>. The mailing of punchcards
designed to sell shoddy merchan
dise which cannot be sold through
normal trade channels.
