Concerning the baseball situa-
on in Hartsville, the Hartsville

ance. Charles W. Coker, vice
president of Soooco Products Co.,
stated definitely this week that
the company would not sponsor
a team next year. He said that
the only solution he could see
to the problem is Class D profes
sional baseball for the town.

o’clock Friday afternoon.
The Tornadoes are having their
best season in many years and are
undefeated in conference games
played, having defeated Lakeview
19 to 0, Immaculate Conception 27
to 0, Sterling High 7 to 6, Wilson
High 19 to 13 and Williston High
18 to 13. Their only defeat was at
the hands of Highland High from
Gastonia, N. C., a non-conference
foe, 27 to 6.
Mather Academy, on the other
ind. has had a fair season, losing
to Johnson High 12 to 0, Lakeview
8 to 0. tied Lancaster 13 to 13, de
feated Coulter 7 to 0 ,and. Avery
20 to 12 last Friday night
Ibis series of games between
the two schools began In 1936.
Since that time current season’s
records have had little bearing on
the outcome of this annual classic.

favorites Friday night as^hey take to Zemp Field to meet
a visiting crew of footballer# from Darlington.
After taking a week’s break in
their ten-game schedule, the Bull
dogs went to work sharpening
their teeth in preparation for an
evening of snapping at a boat of
retreating Darlington heel*—they
hope *
The Darlington team has not
piled up any too formidable rec
ord thus far this season, but they
have been described as a “poten
tially good football team” and are
apt to catch bold and give the
Camden lads a run for their rec
ord. Last week the Darlington
team dropped a close one to
Coach Lindsay Pierce’s Conway
eleven, 7-0.
Band Director Guy Hutchins
will have his aggregation on hand,
majorettes, minorettes, and all, to
provide the expected large num
ber of tens with plenty to dap
their hands about during the
game and. between halves. And
there will be cheers and echoes of
cheers, depending, of course, on
the score.
No starting line-up was avail
able for the Darlingtorf team, but
the eleven Bulldogs who will
probably take the field for the
opening whistle are:

record a short time ago out at
Yuma, Arix., waa a two place
Aeronca. That boils it down to
either the Champiort, which is a
trainer, or the Chief, which is a

Baseball Meeting
Rufus Jackson, who managed
the Chiefs the past baseball seas
on, attended the meeting held in
Sumter Sunday to discuss forma
tion of a Class D baseball league.
Sentiment at the meeting was
said to be favorable to the for
mation of the league, but all rep
resentatives present said they
would have to take the matter up
with the fans in their respective
towns before committing them
selves definitely.
So far as is known no definite
move has been made towards or
ganizing a club in Camden yet,
but there are many fans who
would li^e to see Camden enter
the league.
It is believed that a Class D
league would have a chance of
becoming self-supporting since the
salary limit would be within the
bounds of reason and would be
strictly enforced.
There is a chance, too, of get
ting a major league hook-up in
organized ball

Here Next Month
Fred Tejan and his stable of
polo ponies and riders will arrive
in Camden early in November it
is said, and the local polo season
should be in full swing by the
middle of the month with a spec
ial big attraction slated for
Thanksgiving day afternoon.
Tejan has been holding forth at
Asheville during the past sum
mer, playing to big crowds every
Sunday. The program of polo
was under the sponsorship of the
Asheville Junior Chamber of
Commerce.
Kirkwood field here has just
been mowed and upon the arrival
of Tejan, the work of rehabilita
tion to field and fences, as well as
the building of a new scoreboard
will be taken up.
Tejan will bring his son Eddie,
and also Luis Ramos back with
him from Asheville and these two
layers will see lots of action dur-

rol flights will probably start in
about two weeks. Nelson Peach,
district forest ranger, is conduct
ing the classes. Those desiring to
join the CAP or Cadets may do
so at the meeting. Cadets desir
ing indoctrination rides in the
CAP plane should see either Lt
Jim Darby or me.
The Breakfast Club meets at
Greenwood this Sunday, Oct 30.
I hear that there will be a special
air show and race, with some of
the Cleveland air race partici
pants taking part. The meeting
will be held at the old Coronaca
air base rather than the regular
airport A large attendance is ex
pected.
