been living in England for the pest
three years, formerly lived here
with bis parents at Cool Springs.
He is the author of Dark Surren
der, a novel of the South, which
he collaborated with Mr. Boykin
and which was illustrated by the
former Adele Savage.

The American Legion Auxiliary
of the James Leroy Belk Post 17,
held Its monthly meeting on Fri
day. Oct. 14, at the home of Mra.
Charles H. Stogner, 2105 N. Broad
street, at 4 o’clock.
Mrs. C. C. Jackson, president,
presided and the minutes were
taken by Mra. J. E. Hoffman In the
absence of the secretary, Mrs. Lu
ther B Fields.
The guest speaker was Miss
Margaret.,8mlU) of the Kershaw
County Public Welfare Depart
ment, who gave a most informative
talk on Child Welfare, citing sever-
al ease hostories.
Reports were given by Mra. M.
B. Williams, auxiliary chairman
of the emergency Polio Drive, who
presented 8111.20 to the general
chairman of Kershaw County Polio
Fund, this amount being collected
In a house-to-houae drive.
The membership chairman, Mra.
H. D. Adams, reported that the
membership quota of 81 had been
reached with Camden being the
fourth chapter iu the State to
reach their goal by Oct. S
During the social hour delightful
refreshments were served from an
artistically decorated table, carry
ing out the Halloween motif, by the
hosteesee. Mrs. W. T. Miller. Mrs
George Nicholson. Mrs. H. D-
Adams, Mrs. J. C. Walton. Mrs.

ton street, honoring the members
of the 1948 Camden High school
football team, the cheer leaders,
coaches and othed guests. Their
son, Marian Boykin, ia a member
of the Bulldog squad and plays
blocking back.
The living rooms and dining
room were thrown en suite for the
occasion and were decorated In the
Bulldog colors of gold and black.
Crepe paper streamers were ft*
too nod over each archway aad
hanging from the entrance to the
rooms were gold crepe paper foot
balls.
Bowls of chrysanthemums were
used on the mantels and elsewhere
in the home and dinner was served
at small tables. Each table held
a huge gold chrysanthemum and
wern and at the coaches and
special guests table a crystal bowl
of bronxe chrysanthemums was
used as the centerpiece.
Seated at this table were Coach
Boyd Stokea, John M. VUleptfue,
DeCosta Brown, D. J. Mahoney,
Jack Nettles and Mr. Boykin.
Assisting Mrs. Boykin in serving
were Mrs. Ernest Nutting, Mrs.
DeCosta Brown, Mrs. D. J. Ma
honey, Mrs. J. B. Conway, Mrs.
Jack Nettles and Mrs. Bill Sowell
(Margaret Boykin).
The mehu consisted of roast
turkey with dressing, cranberry
sauce, baked Virginia bam, potato
salad, English peat, rice and glblet
gravy, olives, pickles, hot rolls,
assorted cookies and cakes and
coffee, iced tea and Coca-Colas.
Covers were laid for the Misses

Rice Whiting, Will-Ann Campbell
and Jo Ann Henderson, also Sonny
Smith and Henry Watts, cheer

has been away from Camden for
three years and enjoyed seeing
