B. Clancy, the Scouts and Scout-
ers staged a demonstration of
cooking and woodlore for a large
crowd of fair attenders.
Although' they had erected a
tent as part of their exhibit, the
Scouts, contrary to most of the
performers on the lot, gave their
entire demonstration on the out
side. The demonstration was held
in the place of the Scouts’ regular
Wednesday night meeting.

ance at 8 o’clock.

Society of Christian Service of
the Lyttleton Street Methodist
church held an Officer’s Training
on Wadnesday, Oct. 12 from
10:30 o’clock in the morning until
2:30 with luncheon served at noon.

votionals being given by the

Funeral Services
For Mr. McGuirt
Held On Tuesday
Funeral services for William P.
McGuirt, well known Camden
citizen, were held Tuesday after
noon at the Lyttleton Street Meth
odist church, conducted by the
Rev. H L. Spell, the pastor.
Mr. McGuirt died on Monday
afternoon at 1 o’clock at the Co
lumbia hospital after an illness of
about three weeks. While it was
known that his condition had be
come serious, his death came
nevertheless as a shock
Born in Van Wyck, Lancaster
county, April 8, 1890, he- was the
son of the late James B. and Rosa
Lee Crenshaw McGuirt. He had
lived in Camden for many years
and had a large 'farming opera
tions.
Survivors include his widow,
Mrs. Flonnifc Walters McGuirt, of
Camden; one son, J. B. McGuirt,
of Camden; three daughters, Mrs.
L. S. Mayer, Jr_ of Camden, Mrs.
W. F. Lee of Greensboro, N. C.,
and Mrs. W. H. Clyburn of At
lanta, Ga.: four brothers, J. L.
McGuirt of Heath Springs, J. Fred
McGuirt of Chester, Joseph Mc
Guirt of Kinards and Sam B. Mc
Guirt of Hamlet, N. C.; three sis
ters, Mrs. E. E. McAteer and Mrs.
J. C. Sistare of Lancaster and
Mrs. J. E. Thompson of Van Wyck,
and six grandchildren.
Mr. McGuirt was a loyal mem
ber of the Lyttleton Street Meth
odist church and was very active
in Kershaw Lodge No. 29, A.F.M.
He was buried with Masonic hon-
ers.

Named Magistrate

Mrs. H. K. Delk, young mother
of two children, has been recom
mended by Sumter County Sen
ator S. K. Nash, of Sumter county,
to be magistrate of the seventh
district, covering Hagood, Rem
bert, Borden and Pisgah. If the
recommendation is approved by
the governor, Mrs. Delk will suc
ceed her father, W. F. Baker,
whose death last month ended a
term of three and one half years.
Mrs. Delk’s husband, a decorat
ed air force veteran, is studying
for his master’s degree at the Uni
versity of South Carolina.
The new magistrate will be the
first woman to hold such a post
in this county.

ty fair will be a wild west show
which will give grandstand per
formances in the ball park on
Thursday, Friday and Saturday
nights at 8 o’clock and at 3 p. m.

provision of the builders’ code re
quiring clay flue liners to be used
in all chimneys in nfew construc
