While the 1949 Palmetto League
basebaH parade has only just
gone over the horizon, it is not
too earlv for the moguls of the
to begin to lay plans for the
' baseball program.
Talk about a professional loop

for the moment, which in view of
existing conditions, bodes ill luck
to the pro circuit plans. Applica
tion for -a professional franchise
must be submitted to the execu
tive committee of the Minor Base
ball League Association at a
meeting to be held early in De
cember.
Inquiry of several baseball
leaders in this city indicates that
no steps have as yet been taken
toward forming an organization
preliminary to making application
to enter professional ranks.
Failure to get early action in
the several cities of the Palmetto
circuit who are fed up with the
fancy salaried play of the past two
years, may mean that some of
the communities will be without
baseball in 1950.
This is particularly true here in
Camden. That the 1949 season
was concluded without a breakup
here, was due to the untiring and
unselfish efforts of a group of
business and professional men,
who gave of time and money to
keep the sport intact It is not be
lieved that this group could be
persuaded to take over again in
1950 should the pro ball program
fall through.
It has been rumored that in
addition to Camden, cities that
are interesting in having a pro
fessional league launched include
Orangeburg, Lake City, Kingstree,
Georgetown, BennettsviUe and
Darlington. The report current in
the closing weeks of the 1949 Pal
metto League race that Sumter
and Florence were anxious to
S ve up their franchises in the
ri-State and enter a Palmetto
State League appears to have
been unfounded, since both teams
have gone on record as planning
to comtnue in the Tri-State loop.
The second week of the football
is supposed to be “upset
week” and it lived up to its repu
tation this year. Probably the big
gest upset of the week was Fur
man’s defeat of South Carolina,
but Presbyterian College's defeat
of Davidson was almost as much
of a surprise. Boston College was
not expected to wallop Wake For
est and not many gave Clemson a
chance of walloping North Caro
lina State.

son has caused much interest to

Clinton next week. Wofford had
been generally conceded the edge
in this game until the Davidson

tered on the Wofford-Citadel
game at the Orangeburg fair on
Oct 27. Three special trains will
roll into Orangeburg for this
game, one train bringing The Cit

Wofford student body and the

lege student body- The Columbia
Collese student body will sit in
the Wofford cheering section with
the Wofford student body.

The Camden High Bulldogs will
be crippled for their game with
Florence this Friday night. Jimmy
Cox has a bad knee and on ac
count of this will see very limited
action. This, of course, will weak
en the team very preceptibly.

North Carolina State game say the
Tigers looked somewhat like the
great Tiger team of last year.
Camden women know their
football. The three prize winners
in the football contest last week
were all women and about half
of the entries came from the fair
er sex. An even larger number of
entries has come in this week,
many of them from women.

Reynolds played with Antioch
