James Jackson Is Returned To Gang; Escaped Years Ago James Jackson, colored man, serving a 30-day sentence on the county chaifi gang will be taken to Raleigh this week, to be return ed to the North Carolina state penitentiary from whence he es caped several years ago. Finger prints of Jackson, taken by the Camden police, following his arrest after he had pawned a lawn mower that he had “bor rowed” from a local resident, were sent to the FBI in Washington. On Aug. 19 Charles P. Snow, di rector of the Bureau of Identifica tion of the North Carolina prison department, wired the local police that the Anger prints sent him from Washington show that Jack- son escaped from the North Caro lina peh several years ago. According to Chief of Police Alva Rush, Jackson has been liv ing in Camden for the past three years or more, making a living working in private yards, caring for gardens, cutting grass, etc. On May 8 the police took him Into custody on a charge of as sault and battery. When arraigned in recorder’s court he was sen tenced to pay a fine of $50 or serve 30 days on the chain gang. The court placed him on proba tion, providing he paid $25. Jack- son promised the police he would pay off on his fine from his earn ings and he was released from custody. The police claim he hg? not made any payment on the fine since. After Sept 1, the rate will be $8.50 a year because of tne fact it will be issued twice a week. Subscribers may renew for two years in advance for $5 thus saving $2 on the two years. The question has been asked by subscribers if they can take advantage of this offer if weir subscriptions are not due for several months yet They may. It matters not if their subscription is paid for almost a year in ad vance, they can still renew for two more years. New subscriptions will likewise be taken at the present rate of $2.50 a year up to Sept 1 and new subscribers also have the opportunity of subscribing for two years in ad vance if they so choose.
