L Now man Installed Ai Pastor. 1 m-:' fete- A pj •m <.*' T A government helicopter from Fort Bragg made a forced landing in Bethune Tuesday morning at 6 o clock. The helicopter was enroute to Columbia to rescue a Co lumbia man who had been entrapped in the Broad river by suddenly rising water, learning that he had been res cued it returned to Fort Bragg from Bethune. The installation of Rev. W. L. Newman as pastor of the Presby terian church was held Sunday evening in spite of a heavy down pour of rain accompanied, by an electrical storm. Candles were used until the current was again put into commission and the ex ercises were carried through as if there had been no interference by nature. The commissioners were Rev. A. T. Martin of Winns- boro, and Rev. Robert Fulton of Columbia, and J. W. Stuckey of Columbia, were accompanied by their respective wives. Refresh ments were served in the church the services by cabin preceeding the servu the women of the Church. Of interest to Dr. C. K. About 40 of her little friends were present for this oc casion. The table was centered with the prettily decorated birth day cake. Ice cream, cookies and punch were served. Candy in vari-colored baskets were given as favors. Linda was the reci pient of many pretty and useful gifts. Mrs. Fred Brinson entertained Thursday evening with a bridge porch party. Before cards, peach short cake and punch were served. Mrs. Frank Lee received high score and traveling prizes. Mrs. Arthur L. Plenty of food, cold dunks and fine fellowship featured the day. TTiis picnic is sponsored by George D. Watkins of this place. Saturday, Aug. 6, is the annual work day at the Scotch cemetery. It is hoped that each interested family will send a worker.
