Hangar Flying

The Breakfast Club meeting
this coming Sunday, August 7,
is at Beaufort. They say it’s go
ing to be a beach party, so hr
your bathing suits:
If you want to see a beautifu
sight, fly up the coast from about
Georgetown to Ocean Drive. You
get a whole panorama of deep
blue ocean with waves breaking:
gently and rolling up the white
sandy beach. A fishing boat here
and there. Clean looking white
cottages with red and blue roofs
lending a pleasant contrast to the
green grass and white sand. Mul
ti-colored umbrellas basking in
the sun, and friendly bathers wav
ing at you from the glistening
beach. Over to the left you see
the inland waterway with an oc
casional cabin cruiser or sight
seeing boat wending its leisurely
.way through the channel. Nice
homes scattered here and there
'along the waterway, with small
yacht basins in the front yards.
The Ocean Forest * Hotel is a
prominent landmark along the
coast. Its shining dome may be
seen for many miles up or down
the beach. Another thing that
impresses you is the fact that
there are very few show-off
pilots buzzing the bathers these
days. There are several reasons
for this. One is that the public
has been pretty well advised
about getting the number on the
iwing of the plane and phoning
C.A.A. at Columbia when they
see a case of reckless flying. Also
the better pilots cooperate to pro
tect their reputation. If they
! witness a violation while flying
themselves they will report it
Still another reason is tha
has come of age, and the
citizens comprize the majority of
the pUots flying now, Thjgr have
and are not trying to prove any
thing. The armed forces also $re
