The left wing of
which was a two-seated

during the last world war, was
broken in half, the left under
carriage buried several feet in the
earth while the right under car
riage was ripped oft
Members of the Thompson
family, colored, who were seat
ed on the front porch of their
cabin, heard the plane circling
overhead in the murky air, then
they heard the crash as it struck
the utility pole and as it hurtled
toward the cabin, all left the
porch to flee toward the rear of
the building. The plane missed
the building by inches, also a
huge China berry tree and then
crashed into the field. The pro
peller blades were bent and
twisted as was the nose of the
ship. The plane remained up
right when it came to a stop.
The three young men climbed
out Two did not have a scratch
or bruise but the third was bleed
ing from cuts on his face. They
were taken to the home of a
white family nearby and later
brought to this city where they
boarded a Charlotte-bound Grey
hound bus.
Inquiry of the people who were
at the scene failed to locate any
who had taken the names of the
youths. The License number of
the plane was NC52922.
E. T. Young, an employee of
the B and H Construction Com
pany of .this city, who resides a
short distance from the scene of
the crash, brought the three air
men to this city in his car.
