D. A. R. Notes
Like Camden’s tutelary genius,
King Haiklar’s effigy atop the City
Hall “who never turns his back
on a storm,” the members of Hob-
kirk Hill Chapter DAR drove in
the face of a cloudburst to De-
Kalb Park, their Blacre plot seven
miles above Camden, to do honor
to DeKalb who fell mortally
wounded there in the Battle of
Camden, Aug. 10, 1870.
Chairman U. N. Myers of the
county board and Mr. Colley had
had the plot cleaned and Mr. von-
Tresckow had marked the corners
with iron stakes after Alfred Boy
kin had kindly survey the park.
Picnic tables had been placed
when Jupiter Pluvius took a hand
in affairs. —
After admiring the monument
from the drenched windows of
cars, the cavalcade, 32 undaunted
