ally her subiect for the afternoon

The speaker said that in her
own garden she had only the old
fashioned roses, such as grew in
grandmother’s gardens, which
while lacking in length of bud
found in the newer tea-rose
more than made up for such
a deficiency' by their fragrance
and beauty. Another advantage
they possess is the fact that black
spot and other diseases common
to newer roses—is almost un
known to the old-fashioned varie
ties. Among these are: the
Duchess of Brabant, Souvener de
Malmaiaon and the Persian Yel
low Rose, also the ever-popular
“Sweetheart” rose and mo
Among the newer roses she
mentioned: Peace, Golddocks (a
gold medal floribunda), Etoile de
leaves or pine needles and never
water late in the afternoon.
