Daily Attendance
Average of County
Schools Increases
The average daily attendance in
Kershaw county schools increased
by 1,028 pupils between 1947-48
and the present school year, ac
cording to figures compiled this
week by the State Department of
Education. The average daily at
tendance last year was 5,734 in
Kershaw county, and this year is
6,762.
In the state as a whole, the
average daily attendance has in
creased by 38,974 pupils, more
than a ten per cent increase over
last year. . ,
On the basis pf this increase,
Jesse T. Anderson, state superin
tendent of education, is asking the
General Assembly to appropriate
approximately one and three-
quarter million dollars for teach
ers’ salaries for the remainder of
this year and to add three add
three-quarter million dollars to
the appropriation for teachers’
salaries for next year. State aid
is based on enrollment and daily
attendance.
